Who provisions the cloud resources, and who pays for them?

A TechTrapture engineer provisions them, by hand, inside TechTrapture's own cloud organisation — not your college's. During an MoU, an activation event, or a department pilot, we cover the cost from our own cloud credits. Your college pays nothing for cloud during any of those stages. If a pilot goes on to become a full engagement, the cloud pool is quoted to you at cost, as a separate visible line, with a published provisioning and governance fee on top of it. You will never be charged a marked-up cloud bill.

What stops a student running up a bill?

Four things, in order. Nothing exists until it is approved — a student request is a written justification and an estimated cost sitting in a queue, not a live account. Your faculty or college admin decides on it, so the approval is yours. When approved, a TechTrapture engineer provisions it by hand, scoped to that project, and applies the limits — it is never automatic and never self-serve. And because it all sits in our own cloud organisation rather than yours, an overrun is our exposure to absorb, not a bill that arrives at your college. That last point is the one that matters: we carry this risk deliberately, because it is the only arrangement under which a college can reasonably say yes.

What data do you hold about our students?

Account details (name, college email, department, batch), the profile a student chooses to fill in, and the work they do on the platform — projects, teams, comments, resource requests, and event registrations. Nothing else. It is scoped to your institution: faculty and admins at your college see activity within your college and nowhere else, and no other college can see your students. Project IP stays with the student and the college — we provide infrastructure and hold nothing beyond it. Our Privacy Policy has the full detail.

What does the college actually have to do?

Name a faculty coordinator as the point of contact. Host one activation event on campus within 90 days of the MoU. Have faculty review student ideas and approve or decline resource requests for your own students. Pick a department for the pilot. Share the join code with students — they enrol themselves from there. There is no software to install, no server to run, and no roster to upload.

What does it cost?

The MoU, the activation event, one hackathon, faculty demo access, and a one-department one-semester pilot are all free. Student accounts are free permanently, with no seat limits. Pricing only becomes a conversation after a pilot has run and produced something your college wants to continue — at that point it is a per-student platform licence, the cloud pool at cost with a transparent governance fee, and any faculty development work quoted separately. We do not publish pricing because we do not think you should be evaluating it before you have seen the thing work on your campus.

Do you have other colleges live on this?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. TAIL is opening its first cohort of partner colleges, and we would rather tell you that than show you a logo wall we cannot back up. The platform is built and running — everything on our features page can be demonstrated live on a call. What you would be getting as an early partner is direct access to the engineers running it and real influence over what gets built next. If you would rather wait until we can name reference colleges, that is a completely reasonable position and we will come back to you.

Does TAIL run AI compute or cloud sandboxes itself?

No, and this is deliberate. TAIL is where requests are raised, reviewed, approved, and recorded. The actual cloud resources are provisioned outside it by a TechTrapture engineer. There is no compute, no sandbox, and no automated provisioning inside the platform — which means there is no path by which a student action alone creates a running cloud resource.

How does a college get set up?

We create your college on the platform with a unique join code and, if you want it, your official email domains. Students then sign up with the code or a college email address and are linked to your institution automatically. Faculty and admin accounts are set up the same way. Typically this takes under an hour once we have your details.

Question 9

Is TAIL free for students?

Accepted Answer

Yes, permanently and with no seat limits. Everything a student uses — teams, projects, faculty review, mentor feedback, resource requests, events — is free. There is no student-facing paywall and no upgrade tier.

Question 10

Is TAIL the same thing as TechTrapture Academy?

Accepted Answer

No. They are separate products from the same team. TAIL is where students build, get reviewed, and get resourced. TechTrapture Academy is where we teach cloud and applied AI in depth, and it runs paid cohorts independently. We link to it, but course content and delivery live entirely on Academy.

What happens to a student account after they graduate?

The account and the project records stay. A graduate keeps access to what they built and the history of how it progressed — stage transitions, faculty feedback, mentor comments, and links to their repository and demo.
